The collection contains six untitled poems by Key, 31 letters by him, a list of legal papers re the Yazoo claim, and a document re the renewal of a note. Letters discuss the health, education and activities of various family members, friends and relatives. There are letters on business matters to Lewis Cass, Bedford Brown and several legal clients. Topics include the American Colonization Society, religious faith, a case of postpartum depression, the Farmers and Mechanics Bank of Georgetown, the religious conversion of John Randolph of Roanoke, and a proposed book on criminal law. The War of 1812, factional politics, and St. Louis are touched on and Key's brother-in-law Roger Brooke Taney is mentioned briefly several times.
